Not the Hero
Blurb

One moment he is on his way to school, the next he finds himself in all kinds of life-threatening situations and fighting for his life. At least until he meets the demon Yujin and joins him on his journey to save a realm that has been abandoned by the rest of the world. The Butterfly Queen, the ruler of the capital, the sages of Tardor and the usurper of the cursed realm are forced to act as well and make decisions that will determine the future of everyone.
Only far too late does Sam realise his own role in this journey through the world of Hangaia. Will Sam still manage to stand by Yujin in his fight without risking everything? And can he find a way back to his own world?
Reviews of the Book
This book completely captivated me. From page one, it was easy to form a connection with the characters. Whether Sam, Yujin, Marzy or even Javatra, every character has their own personality, and thanks to the wonderful descriptions, you can remember the “people” really well and never mix them up. A clear recommendation, and I’m already looking forward to the next books he writes 🤩🤩
All I can say is: wow! I really enjoyed reading it!
Across 460 pages, the author lets his imagination run free and creates the fictional world of Hangaia. I have to admit that it took me a few pages to find my way into the world, but then I was swept away by the two main characters, Sam and Yujin, and every time it was hard for me to put the book aside. The book is bursting with courage, friendship and humour. I genuinely found myself smiling and laughing often. The fictional demonic creatures and the world were described in such a way that I could really immerse myself in them, and I would love to take a trip there myself one day.
So I am hoping for a sequel soon! Until then, I can definitely recommend this book to all fans of the high fantasy genre.
I was completely enchanted by the world and its very creative creatures. One of the most beautiful worlds I know.
It is exciting, humorous, profound and, towards the end, very emotional too.
Sam and Yujin together are an absolute delight to read. And it wonderfully sparks your own creativity.
A book close to the heart. A book that invites you to dream.
The world Hangaia
Hangaia is a harsh world populated by a wide variety of creatures and beings. It consists of many small and large islands and one mainland.
Each island is unique, as are its inhabitants.
The Island Skirtingai
"Not the Hero" is set on the island of Skirtingai. It is Hangaia’s northernmost island and borders the end of the world: a gigantic wall of ice. No one has ever been to the other side, so no one knows what lurks beyond it.
The island has different climate zones, and the kingdoms are arranged accordingly. In the east lies the realm of spring, Kevad, ruled by the Queen of the Butterfly Elves. The south is the realm of summer, Nyári. It currently has no ruler.
In the west lies the realm of autumn, Tardor. It is located deep within a ravine and is inhabited solely by humans. Here, the sages hold power. The northern realm is Hivern, the winter land. There, a usurper has seized power.
At the centre of the island lies the capital, Markaz. It is the only place on the island where humans and demons live together somewhat peacefully.
Quotes from the Book
Samuel Belgard
"It is your countrymen, your families and friends who will suffer and die. So why am I the only one here who does not seem indifferent to them? How can it be that I, who do not know a single inhabitant of Hivern, care more about these people than you do? Why does none of you stand up? Why are you waiting, and what for?"
Marena Eisenheart
"I am a Vestica. As you know, I am subject to the laws of magic, and I am not permitted to interfere with the threads of fate. This has been forbidden to the Vestica since time immemorial, and for good reason. It happens all too quickly that someone seizes power in order to do good, and in doing so brings evil upon the world."
The Queen of the Butterfly Elves
"I have always despised humans. For their weaknesses, both physical and mental. But after seeing this, I am beginning to admire them. These ordinary people have survived six long years and still carry hope in their hearts. I understand now why Yujin fights for them."
